Jody joined Arts at Denver as a guest artist in 2014.
By channeling my unveiled innocence as a child, I treat each painting is an individual endeavor towards a natural and expressive embodiment of the subject as if looking through young eyes. I hope to bring the joy I feel in the process to the viewer as a result. The natural world inspires much of my work, as I live in and experience the human condition in relation to the whole-hearted images I choose to paint. My fascination lies within the relationship between color, texture and line in context to the subject.
The process reflects the raw and intuitive energy of the things I paint. My first thoughts about a piece are lucid and unrefined. I envision a background full of imaginative pattern and texture that intentionally peaks through the thick layers of oil paint. Some base layers are made of print blocks I design and handcraft myself, and sometimes include iridescent and metallic acrylic paint. Through this process, the rhythm of pattern, line and layers merge to create expressive work.
Jody attended Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design, receiving her degree in Graphic Design. Now working as a full time fine artist, she lives in Pine, Colorado with her husband. All of her energy is focus on her painting as Jody’s career is building momentum with several invitationals, combined, and featured artist shows.
She has attended workshops from Dan Beck, Kim English, Nura Mascareñas, Michelle Torrez and Melinda Morrison as well as classes at the Art Students League of Denver.
