Janet Anderson

"Although I am primarily a landscape painter, I paint whatever subject matter interests me on an abstract level. My paintings are representational in style, but with strong underlying abstract designs. I use a limited palette to create strong color harmonies in my paintings, and enjoy exploring different palettes in my studio to create varied effects.

An avid snow skier, hiker and mountain biker, I find endless inspiration for my paintings during my time spent outdoors. I create my work both en plein air and in the studio based on field studies and reference photos. When painting on location my goal is to capture the essence of a scene at a particular moment in time, paying particular attention to color and light. I believe that spending time observing nature is essential to creating an authentic visual description of a scene. Nature is truly the best teacher for a landscape painter, and time spent outdoors is both inspirational and instructional.

While I am generally drawn to interesting light effects, I also find inspiration in color and pattern which is why trees are a frequent subject matter of my paintings."
